Gospel of John and Synoptic Gospels Question?

Is the Gospel of John the first time Jesus states that he is the only way to God? From the synoptic versions I couldn't find any mention of Jesus explicitly teaching that one must believe in him to get to heaven. Basically, is there any quote in Matthew, Mark, or Luke (the Synoptic Gospels) that state this?
